Regarding our productivity, we are proud to reveal that during 2019 we supplied in excess of 3 000 tons of vegetables to the food basket of SA.
About
Our workforce consists mainly of women and we pride ourselves to be diligent and efficient, with the support of our male employees of course.
Philippi is known as the vegetable basket of the Cape. In 1975 on Vredendal Farm, our parents started selling their homegrown vegetables to hawkers and the households of Mitchells Plain. Business grew and our parents started buying vegetables from the surrounding farmers in Philippi and as far as Bottelary. As the client numbers grew it soon became a vegetable market selling fresh vegetables in bulk, especially cabbage and spinach to customers from Khayalitsha and Nyanga.
In 1995 we took over the business. Schultz Vars Produkte Mark CC came to life and we expanded from selling vegetables on the farm to supplying and delivering freshly pre-packed vegetables to various clients.
In 2003 we started cutting fresh vegetables to supply the catering industry and restaurants. Since then we have grown our clientele to major national and multinational clients.
In 2014 we registered our company as Schultz VPM (Pty) Ltd of which Lorinda Schultz, and Heidi de Bod (née Schultz) are the directors / owners. Schultz VPM is synonymous with supplying high quality vegetables.
We have built a reputable company which started over 40 years ago as a Family concern with strict morals like ethics, honesty, and integrity which are still today part of our daily operations and service to our clients.
We expanded our packhouse and vegetable processing plant. All areas are lined with insulated cold room panels as well as air-conditioning, with three cold storage units to optimize our cold chain. We have also built a high-risk facility where all the slicing and dicing of vegetables take place under strict safety conditions. This is compartmentalized, with personnel (different colors of clothing) to prevent cross contamination. We have acquired 4 refrigerated trucks and two 1 ton refrigerated delivery vehicles.

Retail
Schultz VPM supplies pre-packed produce to some of the major retail suppliers with a local and Africa footprint, adhering to their own additional quality procedures.
All our fresh produce is sourced directly from the farm. Our suppliers are from Philippi and surrounding areas and as far as George in the Garden Route.
We retail over 60 various fresh produce products to select from when ordering from us.
Restaurants & Catering
Schultz VPM supplies high quality fresh vegetables to our customers may it be in the catering industry, restaurants or retail outlets. We expanded our pack house and all areas are lined with cold room panels to optimize our cold chain.

Slicing & Dicing
In 2003 we started cutting fresh vegetables to supply the catering industry and restaurants. Since then we have grown our clientele and acquired 4 refrigerated trucks and 2 smaller refrigerated delivery vehicles for deliveries to the surrounding areas.
We also built a high-risk facility where all the slicing and dicing of vegetables take place under strict safety conditions.

Food Safety is of utmost importance and our team consist of a Food Technician, HACCP coordinator, Receiving QC, Stock QC, Health and Safety officer, First Aid officer and various Team leaders who make sure that all of our 80 employees work hygienically to give our customers vegetables that are fresh and safe to consume. Our workforce consists mainly of women and we pride ourselves to be diligent and efficient, with the support of our male employees of course.
For the past 14 years we were audited by independent entities to ensure our Methodology and Food Safety levels are of best practice and quality. In recent years we have been awarded A+ status on our FSA (Food Safety Assessment) accreditation and acquired a GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) certification. We achieved green status accreditation from SMETA (SEDEX Members Ethical Trade Audit) which is one of the most widely used ethical audit formats in the World, (SEDEX stand for Supplier Ethical Data Exchange).

The Schultz VPM Management Team consist of Lorinda Schultz Heidi DeBod (Founders and Owners), a Food Technician, HACCP coordinator, Receiving QC, Stock QC, Health and Safety officer, First Aid officer, various other Team leaders, and 80 employees. Our workforce consists mainly of women and we pride ourselves to be diligent and efficient, with the support of our male employees of course.
